Outlier

In the early 2000’s, New Yorker, Abe Burmeister decided he needed a new pair of pants. He had been cycling to work everyday and because of this he had ripped through every pair of pants he owned in the process. After trying out various pants and jeans from top brands, Abe realized that durable, comfortable, tailored pants were in fact non-existent. So he decided to make his own, regardless of the fact he knew nothing about pants.

At around about the same time Tyler Clemens was having a similar problem. Tyler’s problem was finding a smart shirt that he could cycle to work in without having to change shirts upon arriving at work. I’ll leave the story telling for the video below, but thanks to their local coffee barista the two eventually met and so Outlier was born.

What these two men achieved with Outlier was providing commuters with high performance apparel that is comfortable and handsome enough to wear in just about any situation. The company is now over 5 years old and they are yet to open a store. All Outlier clothing is bought entirely online.  Abe believes that this allows them to sell the product slightly cheaper and eliminates the need for salespeople. In addition to this he says, “A well designed product sells itself”. This is the Outlier story.
